Marathon Handbook Collaboration & Interview

Link to Marathon Handbook Articles

Over the past few months I’ve had the pleasure of collaborating with Marathon Handbook on a series of pieces exploring topics around "The Psychology of Running": how the mind impacts our running practice and vice versa (how running shapes our mental health / inner lives). We’ve looked at everything from the history and practice of running therapy, to marathon mindset and dealing with inevitable slumps/challenges, to the quiet power of mentorship, generativity, and those humble 1% improvements that compound over time. Along the way, I’ve tried to bring together clinical insight, current research, and the lived reality of runners who are juggling training with work, family, stress, and everything else life throws at them.

If you’re interested in topics like movement as medicine for the mind, purpose-based training, running therapy versus running as therapeutic practice, or how to build sustainable habits without burning out, you can find the full collection of my Marathon Handbook articles above!

As part of this collaboration, I also joined Marathon Handbook founder Thomas Watson for a “Run Long Run Healthy” conversation, where we dig into purpose-based positive psychology—particularly logotherapy (finding meaning in both joyful and difficult things or even "failure")—and how a sense of meaning can sustain runners through injury, plateau, and life beyond the finish line. If you’re curious about how mental health and a sense of purpose in endurance running fit together, you can watch/listen to the interview here:
